Welcome to our Newark High Schools!

KIPP New Jersey’s high school programming is dedicated to fulfilling our promise to students to provide them with the tools and resources needed to live choice-filled lives.

From day one, students are challenged inside and outside the classroom, from a large roster of Advanced Placement and honors classes, to varsity athletics and a variety of clubs for different student interests.

At all of our KIPP New Jersey high schools, students will have access to:

  • Advanced Placement Courses (or pre-AP for earlier grades) that will provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school
  • Access to rigorous summer pre-college programming opportunities
  • Career and College counseling beginning their junior year
  • High-quality, rigorous, and free ACT preparation beginning in ninth grade
  • Athletic teams who have competed and won at the district and state championship levels
  • Extra-curricular clubs and activities meant to help students find their passion and purpose

KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy (NCA) is our network’s first charter high school. It serves students from KIPP TEAM, KIPP Rise, KIPP BOLD, KIPP Purpose, & KIPP Justice Academies who have stepped up from middle school, as well as new-to-KIPP ninth graders who fill other open seats.

Located in a state-of-the-art building on Littleton Avenue, NCA offers a well-rounded educational experience, including Honors and AP course options, a Dual Enrollment Program with Howard University, varsity athletics, and a variety of clubs that appeal to student interests.

KIPP Newark Lab High School (NLHS) opened in 2019 as KIPP Newark’s second high school and currently educates students in grades 9-12. Located in the Central Ward near NJIT and Rutgers-Newark, NLHS offers a progressive, college-preparatory educational experience, with a focus on project-based learning and design.

Newark Lab offers a Dual Enrollment Program with Howard University and AP course options will grow as the school grows. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs and sports.

Whether it’s honing the writing skills that help them critically examine complex texts, or learning about managing personal finance in a Financial Literacy elective, every student is encouraged to forge real-life connections with classroom learning. Colleges who review our students’ applications know that KIPP NJ high school students have competitive profiles as a result of their involvement with AP coursework.

Athletics

KIPP NJ high schools offer a robust athletics program. Our student-athletes will develop the confidence, work ethic, and commitment necessary to flourish and lead in their communities. We encourage all of our students to join any type of afterschool program and receive experience in team-building.

The NCA Panther Track and Field team has been very successful over the last 3 years and has accumulated medals in every level of competition and recently won its first State Sectional Championship. In 2021, the wrestling team was awarded the Super Essex County Division Champions.

The 2021 NCA Boys soccer team were the SEC – Independence Division Champions and the Girls Volleyball team qualified for the Essex County Tournament for the 4th consecutive season.

As Newark Lab continues to grow we are also growing their sports programs with many teams at both schools already showing great promise! Students have the opportunity to participate in sports like track and field, football, boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, boys and girls volleyball, and soccer, among many others.

College & Career Readiness

Our KIPP Forward college and career counseling team ensures our students engage in enriching summer programming, develop individual career plans, are fully prepared for the SAT college entrance exam, and go on to enroll in a college or career opportunity that meets their interests, abilities, and financial needs. Through our coursework and counseling, we have seen amazing results.
